One OBU - Multiple Contracts
In the multiple contract concept - often called Multiple Contract Interoperability - one single OBU is installed into the vehicle. However, the user has to bilaterally sign contracts with every single Toll Charger for using his network. The user is invoiced by each Toll Charger separately. This concept has the advantage that no third party clearing house (see also "Single Contract Interoperability") has to be established to provide European interoperability. Thus, with the availability of interoperable OBUs, this concept can now be put in place as a first step towards Single Contract Interoperability.
Indeed, Swiss and Austrian Toll Authorities have already implemented Multiple Contract Interoperability between the Swiss OZD and the Austrian ASFINAG, where the FELA TRIPON CH-OBU1 can be registered with both authorities.
