Successful Demonstration of National Tolling Concept for Poland

The Polish Motor Transport Institute in Warsaw successfully demonstrated their concept of a polish national tolling scheme for heavy vehicles above 3.5 tonnes.

The GPS based concept was explained to the 62 attendees of polish experts and journalist that visited the conference. Prof. D. Sc. Ph. D. Gabriel Nowacki, presented the excellent performance results of the 6 month trial period, for which FELA delivered all the necessary equipment. Details regarding the GPS/GSM performance and reliability of the TRIPON-EU OBUs where explained to the audience. Following the concept presentation, all participants visited the outside demonstration facilities. Two cars, equipped with individually setup TRIPON OBUs, as well as a full DSRC enforcement installation could be observed under real operating conditions. Test drivers generated instant real data, transferred via GSM to FELAs tolling backend. The results were presented in real-time on large LCD screens.

Back at the conference room, the final session started with interesting discussions. Last autumn, the polish road Directorate GDDKKia decided to introduce a nationwide tolling scheme for motorways based on DSRC technology. Discussion was focusing on the pros and cons to extend a DSRC based solution to secondary roads. Discussion clearly showed, that for more complex tolling networks, a system implementation based on the demonstrated concept would have tremendous advantages.

The hybrid OBU works in existing DSRC environments as well as fully autonomous on all roads. On top of this flexibility, full EU-wide interoperability is provided according to present EU directives.

For more information regarding details on the concept and test results please contact FELA and we will provide you with the contact details of Gabriel Nowacki.
