Existing Systems based on DSRC Technologies
The majority of existing installed tolling schemes are still based on the well proven DSRC technology. The majority of system that include personal cars are using the DSRC technology for automatic toll collection. The reason is, that the OBU is very small, easy to use and cheap.
Some examples for which the FELA DSRC technology is fully interoperable.
- AUSTRIA
In January 2004, Austria introduced an ETC Scheme for Heavy Goods Vehicles on Austrian Motorways. The scheme is operated by ASFINAG. This system is a so called multi lane free flow open system. The 5.8GHz DSRC OBU is called GO-Box.
Multi Contract Interoperability between the Austrian and Swiss systems has been achieved by FELA as the TRIPON LSVA OBU can be registered with ASFINAG as an alternative to the GO-box.
- FRANCE
The French motorway system is composed of different motorway sub-networks, each operated by a different company. Being a closed system, Tolls are being collected at entries and exits (Toll Plazas). FELAs DSRC solution is fully interoperable with the French DSRC implementation.
- ITALY
The Italian motorway tolling system Telepas, operated by Autostrade per l'Italia S.p.A. is a closed system as in French and Spain. The Telepass 5.8Ghz DSRC technology is different from the the DSRC technology used in the rest of Europe and requires a special DSRC Tag.
- SPAIN
Like in France, the Spanish motorway network is a closed system, consisting of many sub-networks. The VIA-T implementation provides interoperability with other DSRC based implementations.
- CZECH Republic
In the Czech republic, an open multi lane free flow DSRC system was implemented. Originally it was planned to include not only motorways but second level roads as well. With a DSRC based solution, short road sections can not be detected in a economical way.
